Known Trivia

  • While filming, Joseph Gordon-Levitt rode his bike into a cab and smashed into the rear windshield, shattering it. He managed to block his face with his arms and needed 31 stitches on the right. Despite the large amount of blood streaming down his arm, he thought it was “f**king cool.” He took responsibility saying, “No, but it was my fault, I was going too fast.” Footage after the accident is shown in the end credits before the cast is listed.
  • Premium Rush was shot simultaneously as “Triple Rush” the TV docu-reality series about bike messengers in NY was wrapping up. And many of the stunt doubles and characters from the underground TV series appear in the movie.
  • Bobby Monday’s alias Forrest J Ackerman is a tribute to Forey Ackerman, noted science fiction and horror movie fan and memorabilia collector (he coined the term “sci fi” in 1959). He had cameos 48 movies and represented Ray Bradbury, Isaac Asimov, and even Hugo Gernsbeck (which the “Hugo” award is named after) as their literary agent.
  • Although some of the scenes are filmed at Columbia Law School, as stated in the movie, most of the interior and exterior scenes supposedly there are actually filmed in Lerner Hall (the student center).
  • In the film the love triangle between Wilee, Vanessa and Manny is compared to the MTV series “Real World”. The character Nima played by Jamie Chung began her career by appearing as a cast member on the series.

Goofs: Continuity: Shortly after the first chase begins, Wilee is shown riding past the same Mobil gas station twice without doubling back.

Plot: In Manhattan, a bike messenger picks up an envelope that attracts the interest of a dirty cop, who pursues the cyclist throughout the city. Full summary »  »

Story: Wilee is one of 1,500 bike couriers in Manhattan who rides on the edge by having a bike with no brakes. On this day, Wilee has a delivery that is so valuable that a corrupt NYC Detective, who needs the money, begins to chase Wilee throughout the city to get it before the envelope is delivered.Written by Douglas Young (the-movie-guy)
