Known Trivia

  • Mickey Rourke was cast as Charlie, but had conflicts with a producer and was replaced by Woody Harrelson.
  • The film was set for a limited release on November 2, 2012, before being expanded to an earlier, wider release on October 12, 2012.
  • In the graveyard scene, the grave that the Jack of Diamonds killer is hiding behind is named “Rourke”. Mickey Rourke was initially cast in the movie, but dropped out after disagreements with the director.
  • The original script revolved heavily on the shih-tzu getting shot in the final stand-off of the film. The film boards insisted that they shouldn’t show animal cruelty and the script was changed around it.
  • A shot of the completed film script for ‘Seven Psychopaths’ written by the character Marty appears to have the name McDonagh on the front cover, suggesting that the film’s writer/director Martin McDonagh based the character Marty and the story on himself and his own experiences (most likely as an in-joke). Marty’s surname during the film is never revealed and the closeness of the names Marty and Martin offers weight to this theory .

Goofs: Audio/visual unsynchronized: When Dennis is in the back of the car and he questions Hans, his mouth only moves for a split second & the dialogue is still heard even when his lips have stopped moving.
