Known Trivia

  • The unwillingness of “Mark” to play a campaign (“last time it was weird”) and his panicking reaction when Kevin mentions his next villain “the Shadow”, are both nods to the movie The Gamers.
  • The character Nodwick is a direct nod to for the character of the comic strip of the same name “Nodwick”.
  • Table Top RPG writers Monte Cook and Sean K Reynolds both appear as the characters Bill the Cleric and The Inquisitor respectively.
  • Flynn the Fine dies and is resurrected a total of 27 times throughout the film.
  • When the characters meet up with Nodwick for the second time, Brother Silence pulls out several items from the chest that have item names taken from the card game “Munchkin”. The scene where the Hierophant takes Brother Silence’s elf-ears off is another reference to a race-change card in the “Munchkin” card game. The “Munchkin” card game can be seen played in the movie.
  • While removing items from the Chest of Holding the music blends into the Star Wars Theme when Brother Silas pulls out the Lightsaber.
  • Kevin’s cat, Guenhwyvar, is named after Drizzt Do’Urden’s astral black panther of the same name in stories by R. A. Salvatore.
  • At the conclusion of the first battle with the goblins the music playing in the background is the Final Fantasy victory theme.
  • When the group is starting the campaign for the third time, there is a dry-erase board behind Leo. A thought-bubble drawn on it says “I Suck” and points to Leo.
  • In the dungeon, a sign on a door the characters pass through that Sir Osric removes (apparently due to it being a trap) has letters in stencil form that say “Long Live Gygax,” a reference to the author and originator (Gary Gygax) of the original Dungeons and Dragons game.

Goofs: Revealing mistakes: When Flynn the Fine discovers the secret passageway, and loses his arm (that has been severed by the cat), one can see his real hand in the shoulder-hole of his tunic, releasing the fake arm to allow it to fall to the ground.

Story: All Lodge wants is for his gaming group to finish their adventure. Unfortunately, they're more interested in seducing barmaids, mooning their enemies, and setting random villagers on fire. Desperate to rein in his players, Lodge injects two newbies into the distrust: a non-player character controlled by Lodge, who the power gamers immediately distrust, and the rarest gamer of all — a girl. Can the group overcome their bickering to save the kingdom, or will the evil necromancer Mort Kemnon triumph unopposed? A parody of fantasy films and the adventure gaming community, The Gamers: Dorkness Rising is a hilarious romp through the world of sword and sorcery — in this case, a world of exploding peasants, giant house cats, and undead roast turkeys.
